offBeat magazine interview

bmoloney over at the Live Journal nin_news community posted a great interview from offBeat magazine, a New Orleans online music magazine.

You can read the interview here. Trent talks quite a bit about his time living in New Orleans. It's long but well worth a read!

Tap Tap Discipline

Trent just posted a new "from the road" message about the first ever NIN iPhone App! Well... sorta. Check it.

9.29.08: heading south

On the road again... Leaving fall to arrive in spring. We are very much looking forward to playing for you, South America!
In other news, check the iPhone app store in the coming days. Tapulous is releasing a NIN-branded version of their popular Tap Tap Revenge game featuring music from... that's right, Nine Inch Nails! More details soon.
TR

I just deleted Tap Tap Revenge from my iPhone so I guess I'll have to redownload it soon. So, how about some more DLC for other rhythm games like Rock Band? One can only hope. *cough*theslip*cough*

How did they do it?

from nin.com:

Moment Factory, the company who provided the unique interactive systems used on the current tour, have made a short video detailing some of the video effects and how they work - click here to watch it on YouTube.

Still no word on what Trent will be doing after the shows, but keep your eyes on the official Soundwave Festival website for more details as they come to hand.

More details about the mysterious TDS vinyl re-release

While I wasn't looking, Icklekitty got her copy of The Downward Spiral on vinyl on the 20th, shipped from What Records. It comes with a "Back to Black" sticker, boasting "Premium audiophile pressing on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl in all original packaging."

According to the (somewhat outdated) Back to Black website, which appears to be run by Universal Music Group in the UK, vinyl released under this program comes with a code that allows you to download the album in MP3 format. The record apparently comes in a thick plastic wallet rather than just shrinkwrap.

Amazon begins shipping TDS vinyl, closes ordering

At about 1:30, I received email from Amazon telling me that my pre-ordered copy of The Downward Spiral on vinyl has shipped. Upon mentioning this to ItsJustDave, he noted that Amazon is no longer taking orders for the vinyl re-release of The Downward Spiral. We don't really have much information on this release, other than that it's been done without any input from Trent Reznor, and that it's apparently being done with some bullshit tie-in to the 60th anniversary of the 12" LP.

Did you miss the boat then? Well, Tower Records is still taking orders, as is AcousticSounds. SPEND SPEND SPEND

0MG TR3NT SP@M!!!1!

This might be showing up in some of your inboxes (or spam folders, oops!):

Hello everyone.

I'd like to thank everyone for a very successful year so far in the world of Nine Inch Nails. I'm enjoying my couple of weeks off between legs of our Lights In The Sky tour and got to thinking... "wouldn't it be fun to send out a survey to everyone that's shown interest in NIN?" Well, that's not exactly how it went, but regardless - here it is. As we've moved from the familiar world of record labels and BS into the unknown world of doing everything yourself, we've realized it would benefit us and our ability to interact with you if we knew more about what you want, what you like, what you look like naked, etc.I know it's a pain in the ass but we'd truly appreciate it if you'd take a minute and help us out. As an incentive, everyone who completes the survey will be able to download a video of live performance from this most recent tour (and I know what's going through your little minds right now: "I'll just grab this off a torrent site and not have to fill out the survey!!!" and guess what? You will be able to do just that and BEAT THE SYSTEM!!!! NIN=pwn3d!!!)
BUT
What if we were to select some of those that DO complete the survey and provide them with something really cool? I'm not saying we'll ever get around to it, but if we did maybe something like signed stuff, flying someone to a show somewhere in the world, a magic amulet that makes you invisible, a date with Jeordie White (condoms supplied of course), you
know - something cool. See, you'd miss that opportunity AND be a cheater. Do the right thing - help us out. You'll feel better.

Thank you and I've had too much caffeine this morning,
Trent

I see a theme developing...

Well, I got on a bit of a kick tonight, and threw together a "The Slip" theme for the Hotline, which I think is now the default theme. Anyhow, you can choose it by clicking on "TS" in our awful little theme selector -- which is one of the other things I am working on revamping. I've also rewritten some of the javascript for the RSS feeds to utilize jQuery, which probably doesn't mean a whole lot to you, but it's a bit smoother now, and having jQuery onboard should be helpful for some other tweaks I hope to fully realize in the next month or so. I'm crossing my fingers for a glorious return of our News Submission form, but as hard as I squeeze my eyes shut, every time I open them back up, it's still not working.

Remember that if you've got entirely too much time on your hands, you can follow us on twitter, or on MySpace, but we haven't bothered with Facebook or Get Satisfaction or Delicious or whatever. Yeah, I think that's my cue, I'd better get some sleep now.

South American tour changes/cancellations

From nin.com

Due to unforeseen technical issues, Nine Inch Nails' October 15 show at the Poliedro de Caracas in Caracas, Venezuela has been moved up a week to October 8. Tickets for the October 15 show will of course be honored at the new date.

The same issues have unfortunately forced the cancellation of the following shows:

Tue-Oct-07 Sao Paulo BR Via Funchal
Thu-Oct-09 Porto Alegre BR Pepsi on Stage
Sun-Oct-12 Bogota COL BIMA Mall

Ticketholders seeking refunds should contact the Via Funchal and Pepsi on Stage box offices for Sao Paolo and Porto Alegre respectively, while those seeking refunds on Bogota tickets should contact Tu Boleta

Fans who purchased nin.com pre-sale tickets will receive a refund.

Really Good wired.com Article

Want to know how all the cool effects on the tour were done?

Then go and read "NIN Dazzles With Lasers, LEDs and Stealth Screens" at wired.com for the answers! Great pics too plus a video montage thing of clips from the tour.

ETA: Also, at the Moment Factory website you can see pictures and a video detailing the creation of the stealth screens on the LiTS tour. Go to Company, then Experience, then Live to find the video and pictures. Thank you to Troy and Michael for letting me know.

thanks cynicmuse

Fun Book v2.0

The Meathead Perspective was updated.

If you hated Meathead's Lights In The Sky Tour Companion and Fun Book, you'll tolerate Meathead's Lights In The Sky Tour Companion and Fun Book v2.0, an upgrade featuring additional coloring pages, activities, and probably other things!

Also, the Meathead Perspective Store is back, even though nobody asked for it to be.

The Great Blue Screen of Death

While attending the NIN concert in St. Louis a few weeks ago and rocking out to The Great Destroyer, I suddenly saw something blue flash on the screen for what had to be no longer than a milisecond. I thought it was nothing and continued to watch the performance when all of a sudden, I felt my sister hitting my arm a few times. She shoved her camera in my face to show me what she caught - A Blue Screen of Death on the giant screen behind the band. I immediately threw it on my Flickr photostream for all to see.

The reason I'm posting about this today is because Gizmodo, Digg & Reddit are all linking to the image today and we figured that we'd give credit where credit is due before someone else tries to take it for themselves. The photo was taken by my sister, Amy Randazzo, and here's the link to the original picture, complete with multiple sizes! Enjoy!

Quick Update: I know that all of this is technically NIN-Spotting and belongs here on ETS, but CNet has a funny blurb about the image. Also, Leviathant posted a link at the top-right of the page so we can try to send the revised Gizmodo story to Digg's front page. The story shows two videos to clear up the misconception that the image was a "FAIL" and not intentional. It was. Digg it!

V is for Virgin Fest Streams

Three proshot videos of NIN's V Festival performance are on MSN's Music in Concert site. The three songs are March of the Pigs, Vessel, and Echoplex. You can find the streams here and downloaded ripped versions are probably available on your friendly NIN forum of choice.

Thanks to kenthebear for knowing his media software...

AC: 11.06.08

Oh boy. NIN has added an Atlantic City stop at the House of Blues on November 6th, 2008. The show is going to be stripped-down and not as production-heavy as the rest of this year's tour. Check out the tour page for more info. Presale and on sale dates haven't been announced yet, but let me be the first to say, you need to check them out in AC. It'll be amazing.

Now that everyone else is doing it - we're on Twitter

I haven't bothered to do up a fancy design for our profile yet, but at twitter.com/ninhotline I may start posting random anecdotal crap that's not necessarily front-page worthy, or if I'm on my phone and don't have time to actually update the site. If you don't know what Twitter is and haven't figured out how Google works yet, here's the Wikipedia entry. Twitter didn't make a lot of sense to me at first, but eventually it kind of did. So, yeah, follow us, it'll be totally insightful and behind the scenes and AWESOME.

Voodoo Experience Presales

The 2008 Voodoo Experience is offering Nine Inch Nails fans an exclusive presale ticket opportunity for the festival in New Orleans. For 48 hours beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, September 3rd, single-day presale tickets will be available for $35, instead of the face value of $50. You will also be able to purchase a 3-day ticket for $115, instead of the face value of $125. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 5th. Nine Inch Nails are playing on Saturday, October 25, 2008.

You can purchase presale tickets via Ticketmaster, beginning at 9 a.m. EDT tomorrow (Wednesday, September 3rd). You'll have to enter the following code when prompted: voonin

Good luck, and remember: these tickets go fast, so I wouldn't sit around too long after 9 a.m. tomorrow.

P.S. My NIN Hotline email is back up and working. If you've emailed me any time in the past 7 months, I promise I wasn't ignoring you ... my email was just broken! Email me with any NIN news that needs posting.

NIN at 20, plus some tour info

OK, this is kinda neat. Jeff emailed us over the weekend about a writeup that Billboard.com put up a few weeks ago about Nine Inch Nails at 20. It isn't anything that any NIN fan can't find on the NIN Wikipedia page or the NINWiki, but it's still neat nonetheless. It's featured right now on Billboard's main page. Check it out here.

Also, as we reported earlier, presale and on sale dates are slowly trickeling in over at nin.com's performance page. As of right now, a presale date (Sept. 2nd, 2008) has been announced for Orlando, Jacksonville, Charlottesville, & Montreal. Obviously, expect more to show up soon.
