Press continues to applaud NIN performances

The latest review to hit the media comes from the Omaha World-Herald, in an article penned by Niz Proskocil. Amongst interviews with exuberant fans at the show, Proskocil proclaimed "The band, especially the drumming of newest Nails member Jerome Dillon, was impeccable, and Reznor was a razor-sharp inferno."Apparently, 'The Fragile' made its way into the encore again. (static is a lucky mofo)Also in the news, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch did a write up about the rainy St. Louis show, where special to The Post-Dispatch Cory Blackwood writes:A dizzying barrage of lights popped and exploded in time with the machine gun fire of Jerome Dillon's drums. The first sign of color in the stage presentation wasn't until Nine Inch Nails first tread on new musical ground with "The Wretched." Guitarist Robin Finck and bassist Danny Lohner put their instruments at war as a wash of sickly blue and green lights glimmered overhead.Thank you Dawn for sending that link in. Next up, the Kansas City Star breaks down the Kansas show on their site in an article subtitled "Nine Inch Nails rocks the phonies out of Kemper". Again praising a good show, this one including Somewhat Damaged at the start, Derek Donovan writes;Even though Nine Inch Nails is primarily known for the bombast and raw power of its most brutal moments, the concert proved that much of that power comes from its creator's keen sense of contrast. When Reznor held the audience rapt throughout "The Frail," a quiet instrumental that recalls Erik Satie at his most minimal and sedate, it became clear that his music is very different from the bluster of Slipknot or Rammstein. The mood then morphed into the relentless, rolling gait of "The Wretched," one of Reznor's most subtly hard-edged songs, and the definite musical highlight of the concert.Derek's written about NIN before in the KC Star, he's the fellow from Love Among Puppets who wrote a real nice review of the Fragile before :) Thanks to sarah for transcribing the article, and to UrbanLegend for forking over a link. On a personal note: those of you trying to get in touch with me and who haven't heard back from me - I was in New Orleans for a couple days, I came back to several hundred emails. I -will- get back to you, I just need to play catch up first.

Clouser to Remix Splatter Cell and Theremin Info

Morpheus Technopagan over at The Remix Files recieved all of this information right from Charlie Clouser yesterday.According to Charlie, "the SplatterCell remix has just been finished(last week) and is on its way to mastering. It clocks in at a massive12 minutes or so!" The SplatterCell remix album featuring Charlie's remix(among others) will be released in the US on August, 22 on 75ARK Records. The Theremin Charlie uses on stage is infact a Bob Moog Etherwave. Here's what Charlie toldMorpheus about the theremins: "The theremin I'm using IS the Bob Moog Etherwave model, and it is fantastic. The best-playing theremin I've tried, except for its big brother. Truly a fine electronic instrumentthat is sensitive, expressive, and durable (!), despite its somewhatplain appearance. I'm running it through a TC Electronics FireWorxeffects processor to add distortion, delay, filters, pitch changers, etc.,which is quite helpful at livening up the somewhat sterile soundof a 'dry' theremin. See Big Briar's website for ordering info!" Keep Checking the News section of The Remix Files for more info, and look for a brand new Theremin section.

MTV Latin America Interviews Trent Reznor

MTV Latin America recently interviewed Trent Reznor. Trent discusses a possible tour in Latin America among other things. Stephanie was nice enough to transcribe it for us, so heres the english version of the interview.

JournalStar.com Interviews Reznor

JournalStar.com recently interviewed Trent Reznor. The Interview is one of the better ones lately. Q: You're obviously not gripped by commercial considerations -- three full-length albums in 10 years isn't a mark of hunger for sales. But there had to be some relief in the success of "The Fragile" (which debuted at No. 1), knowing that people still wanted to hear what you had to say musically. A: Very much so. I've convinced myself we're starting from scratch. I didn't know if everyone was still out there. I had to tell myself, it's a new era, a new climate. A lot of things have changed. The business has changed -- record labels don't appear to like music anymore. It's a very hostile climate for bands. So I put out a record that's longer than most, denser than most, costs more than most, requires you to listen harder. What could I expect? I'm surprised with the success it's had. I'm also surprised with the lack of support Seagrams (owner of Interscope Records) has given it. The development of art means nothing to them. It's all, "What's the next Britney Spears?" That's disheartening to see a climate like that, to see your favorite labels like 4AD or Creation evaporate.

Arizona Venue Changed!

According to The Arizona Republic newspaper, the venue for the Phoenix, AZNails show on June 4th has been changed. The venue has been changed from Veteran's Memorial Coliseum to America WestArena. Call your local Ticketmaster office for more information.

NolaLive.com Article on Nothing Studios

Nola Live.com has put up an article describing the massive Nothing Studios on Magazine Street in New Orleans. The Article, Magazine Street studio ahigh-tech sanctum, offers a peak inside the studios, describing it like: "The main studio room of the 17,000-footfacility is a bunker-like space in what was the funeral home's chapel. A massive 72-input control board isaugmented by banks of recording gear." The article also talks about how Nothing Studios recently became a commercial studio. Thanks Allison.

NAILED TO NEW ORLEANS preshow article

A special in the entertainment section of nola.com contains a pleasant article about Mr. Reznor and how New Orleans has influenced his music. The article obviously quickly runs through Mr. Reznor's history up to his move to New Orleans, and then delves into a more detailed synopsis of his activities in the Big Easy. It's interesting and definitely worth the long read. Click here for the article. Thanks to Steven Flores for the news.

Trent gets a visit from the gaming industry

Trent and Daisy May were blessed with the presence of John Carmack, Co-founder, owner and lead programmer of ID Software. Yes doom/quake fans he's the man behind the games. Though many might say that Mr. Carmack is just experiencing red-eye from the camera, if you look closely you might see new screenshots burned into Mr. Carmack's pupils (million plus hours behind a computer monitor) from the upcoming expansion pack for quake 3. Check out the picture here. Thanks for everyone who submitted.

Nine Inch Nails perform 'The Fragile' at lastnights show

Fans who attended the concert at the Lakeland Center in Florida lastnight were treated to a performance of 'The Fragile'. Lord Morpheus from evendeeper.net phoned me from Florida lastnight/this morning to fill me in, but my computer was off and I was already on my way to slumber :)The Fragile appeared during the encore of lastnights show, between The Day The World Went Away and the fiery Starfuckers, Inc.

Lakeland area newspaper preps for NIN performance

In an article entitled A Hint at a Light of Optimism, Elizabeth McCormick writes for The Ledger,While the new tour may have a tinge of optimism, the band will not alienate faithful fans and will continue to rely on its strengthsMcCormick interviews Robin Finck for this article, and touches on the origins of The Fragile and how it's translated into a live setting. Radio station broadcasting Manson with NIN

According to Matt Vice, Ohio station 97.3 FM has been playing a clip from the Madison Square Garden show.Twice during the past week, Matt caught the recorded performance of 'The Beautiful People' featuring NIN playing backup for surprise guest Marilyn Manson."It sounded great and Trent did a wonderful job at the end on the guitar," Matt commented.

Washington Post reviews performance in Columbia, MD

Richard Harrington of the Washington Post made a nice write up of the second outdoor performance by NIN during Fragility v2.0.Citing Robin Finck and Jerome Dillon as particularly manic, the review sets the show as well balanced, complemented with a connected audience. At Merriweather Post, it proved a still-powerful combination, particularly on the opening full-frontal-lobe assaults "Terrible Lie,""Sin" and "March of the Pigs," early works that are as soul-wrenchingand teeth-rattling in the new millennium as they were in the early 1990swhen NIN and Ministry launched the industrial rock revolution. Reznor, suitably dressed for the apocalypse, screamed out his frustrations--onlyto have them screamed right back by the crowd in a stunning showcase ofrock concert as group therapy. The article can be found in its entirety at the Washington Post's website for about two weeks. Check it out :)

Brief TR interview in June AP Magazine

Thanks to Crystal and Lucid Empress for sending this in! In the latest edition of Alternative Press, there's a stout little interview with the man behind Nine Inch Nails. Check it out;Nine Inch Nails' founder is anything but fragile.Q: What was the response to NIN to the rest of the world?A: Really good. We wanted to catch the rest of the world up with America because we've never had the resources to tour outside the United States much due to shitty record labels. Walking onstage in Barcelona and having everyone know the lyrics to "Somewhat Damaged" was pretty weird.Q: You said on an MTV.com Web chat that you would stay on tour forever to promote The Fragile.A: I was being dramatic. Here is what I'm faced with: The only thing that has ever gotten the word out on NIN was touring. So either I let the record vanish or I do whatever it takes to get the word out. That means touring. When we're done, we'll go do some festivals in Europe. And then I'll assess the situation. If people are still interested here, I'll go out for another round, if it's done in a different context.Q: Any new Nothing Records plans?A: The mysterious Tapeworm project and another thing from me are my priorities at the moment. Clint [Mansell, formerly of Pop Will Eat Itself] is doing another record right now.Q: Filter's Rich Patrick: wacky person or genuine loser?A: I don't know what has short circuited with that guy lately. I genuinely like Rich and I know him enough to know that he's the kind of guy where you add a little fame to the situation and the personality-distortion machine kicks into full gear and has to run its course.Q: Did all the people who were genuine music fans 10 years ago give up music for marriage, mortgages, and kids? Are we like the last soldiers stranded on a remote island and no one has told us the war is over?A: I think there's a truth to what you're saying, but I also think that the love of music didn't die off with our generation. I think that people innanely want to be challenged. I can't believe that people think that what's out there now is great. I don't think everyone is lined up at the candy machine waiting for the next 'N Sync single to poop out. I'm going to keep plugging away at what I think is good. You can sit back and bitch about it, or you can try to change it.

Happy Birthday

As many of you already know, today is Trent Reznors birthday. He turns 35 today.

Starsuckers on TRL - almost there - need your further help

I'm a pretty inventive fellow, but there are only so many comment lines I can come up with when submitting to TRL.If we're going to make a script that doesn't look completely bogus, it's going to have to post to TRL with more than just one comment.Seeing 2,000 votes with "NIN ROCKS!" as the comment begins to look suspicious. So if you have a little time, please send me an email with a couple lines (or a hundred lines) of 'comments', to be inserted into our TRL script. Please double space the email, so seperating comments will be easier. Don't worry about spelling, and relevance isn't completely important. But submit your comment lines to me at this email address.Your assistance is much appreciated!

Starsuckers on TRL - Update

We've been hearing a lot of positive response, and we're heavy in developing a few, erm, helper applications, to forward the cause. Thanks for all the emails, your support is continually appreciated, and if we can get Starsuckers on TRL, I'll go out of my busy way to put out some cool stuff for readers of this site. Help do what we can to expose TRL viewers to some proper music :)

KROCK posts some picks from their booth at MSG

While we're on a kickback to New York last week, we'll send you to this link at NYC's KROCK website, which features a few shots of Trent with soem DJs,but mainly pictures of fans at MSG stopping by the station's booth. Thanks to Josh from God Money's Altar.

VH1 Reviews the Madison Square Garden show

Yeah, so we might not have Starsuckers on TRL yet (give us a week) we're seeing support from VH1 for the boys in corn starch. This review by Charles Bottomley of VH1 rightly applauds last weeks fantastic show, giving it a five-pick rating, and speaking very highly of the whole evening. The mosh pit undulates like a trailer park in tornado season, soaked by Poland Spring poured by the band off the stage. "March of the Pigs" seamlessly accelerates into "Piggy." Onstage, it's a mess. Keyboards fall over, Trent falls over, and then he plummets in front of the stage to pass the mike to a crushed fan so they can wheeze along with the line "Nothing can stop me now..." Don't forget to vote for the show while you're there :)

Starfuckers Makes the Cut on Smash or Trash

Don't forget to vote for Starsuckers, Inc. on MTV's TRL

In brief: click here and vote for NIN. Turn off your cookies, vote as much as you can. Help the band out!! I don't have MTV, I've only seen a Realvideo version of this video, and I still vote!Extended Version: We need some creative people to help us fix Total Request Live. Right now, it's broken, it keeps playing the same stuff over and over. If we can come up with a solution to this error collectively, it would be very good for the entity we know and love, Nine Inch Nails. If you want to assist with some CGI scripts I'm fiddling with, please get in touch with me. If you don't know that CGI crap, but want to help out, turn cookies off in your browser, and vote a couple times, ten times, twenty times, but put in new information each time.If you don't know what turning cookies off means, well, we're working on that. If you're going to email us and say 'I don't want to see NIN on MTV ever' then save your efforts to dislodge my personal favorite band for some other elitist moron who thinks that it helps the band to not-show-support.

MTV News Update

This morning around 3 AM Central time (I know this due to my horrible sleeping patterns) Mtv ran a news update that rehashed the reunion of Reznor and Manson. It quickly touched on the NYC concert where Manson joined Nine Inch Nails onstage to perform the last bit of Starfuckers Inc. and The Beautiful People. Clips from the wonderful camera work of the NIN crew that you can view in the video section of Nin.com and the clip of Beautiful People on Manson's website. Following the clips, Mtv showed a short interview with Reznor and Manson speaking about how they came up with the idea for the Starsuckers Inc. video and why they wanted to insult so many other musicians. Towards the end of the interview, Mtv made a comparason of Starsuckers to Eminem's new single The Real Slim Shady. Manson mentioned that Eminem tries for more of a comedy look in his video than Starsuckers was envisioned to be. Reznor mentioned that Eminem was "smart" for what he did in the video.

New York Times Reviews MSG Show

The New York Times did a review of the Madison Square Garden show at which Manson appeared. The Review Done By Jon Pareles gives the show a good rating, and has a picture of Reznor taken at the show. Introducing the viciously mocking song that has been retitled "Starsuckers Inc." for its release as a single, he said it was about "a friend," and then the friend it denounced, Marilyn Manson, joined him onstage, publicly ending a long feud. ( Manson has also directed the video clip for the song.) Nine Inch Nails then backed Manson singing his own song, "The Beautiful People"

New York Daily News applauds MSG show

In a praising article penned by New York Daily News Music Critic Jim Farber, the bands' skill and the articulate sound setup were brought together for a powerful performance on May 9. While head Nail Trent Reznor has been fashioning an increasingly self-involved and difficult sound in the studio (having created his hermetically sealed albums almost entirely by himself), in concert he made his dark style rousing, aided by four sadistically skilled musicians. They helped give Reznor's material greater momentum than at any show I've witnessed by him in the band's 10-year history......amid today's sunny pop scene, dominated by toothy teen stars, it was especially refreshing to witness artists of such dark power in their prime. You can follow this link to read the full article, which includes a little TR photo and more laudate authoring. Thanks to Taylor for sending in this news.

Reznor Calls K-Rock about Show Cancellation

Trent Reznor called K-Rock around 8:30pm today to explain the show cancellation (which was explained in the press release, scroll down). Then Trent also talked about the setlists of the shows this time around. He said that the Self Destruct shows were just 'assault...assault..assault', but these shows left more of a companionship with the crowd at the end of the show. He said he really liked that feeling he gets from the crowd after the shows, and that alone is enough to make him tour for a long time. I only caught the last half of the call, so if you heard the rest... tell us! On another note, an estimated three hour roundtrip drive to the Nassau Colesieum took me seven hours... only to see the nice 'show cancelled' sign. :-)

Marilyn Manson / NIN @ MSG, NY Update

Two items of interest regarding the special appearence of Marilyn Manson last night at the Madison Square Garden.Marilyn Manson.com the official site for the band has updated with a clip ofThe Beautiful People that Manson performed with NIN last night. It seems to be a continuation of the video on nin.com of the duo performing Starfuckers, Inc.Also, MTV's site has added a small blurb of a Trent Reznor & Marilyn Manson Interview by Kurt Loder..you can find the RealVideo clip hereShout out to the Hotline's own Cunnykick for spotting these.

Starfuckers Clip

Everyone check out the new Starfuckers clip at nin.com featuring Marilyn Manson at the MSG show this evening! This you won't want to miss. :)

More On Manson at MSG

Marilyn Manson joined NIN for a few songs tonight at MSG. At the beginning of Starfuckers, Trent said to the crowd "Heres a song about a friend of mine." Then, after the "dont you... dont you" part, Marilyn Manson joined NIN on stage to take vocals with Reznor. As soon as the song ended the intro to 'The Beautiful People' kicked in. Marilyn Manson did the vocals with Trent on guitar. The stage was rocking, the crowd flipped. I'll have a few pictures uploaded on Thursday. NIN rehearsed The Beautiful People before the Philly show (around 4:30 or so) as some of you at the show may have heard from outside. The show went pretty well, other then some soundboard difficutly during the first few songs. Fragility 2.0 Journal Down Temporarily

The amazingly popular Fragility 2.0 Tour Journal has temporarily gone off-line because it was taking way too much bandwidth for the server to hold. Luckily, the hosts put TheFragile.com back up, but the Tour Journal may be down for a day or two. Dont be afraid to send your reviews this way in the meantime.

Metal Hammer Interview

Metal Hammer magazine interviews Trent Reznor in thier July 2000 issue.. and Maelina was awesome enough to transcribe it for us. The interview, done by Pete Gabler, deals with The Fragiles structure, Manson, and the live shows. Worth a read definitely. "I think I'm over a necessary hump in my own creative development that I would hope doesn't stall me out for another several years. I've gained a lot of confidence in the studio and a lot of self-respect, and I sincerely don't believe that I'm on the verge of another travel down that horrible road, which would prevent me from doing anything. I feel very optimistic right now."

Live Nails show on MTV2?

Gary was watching MTV2 when the Starfuckers Inc. video came on, and along the bottom of the screen, the following message was marqueeing by:Nine Inch Nails is taking over the airwaves...tune in for thier live concert and behind the scenes footage throughout the weekend of 5/27... only on MTV2" This looks like its for real, though no confirmation yet.

Philadelpia Review

Well, even within this crazy heatwave we've been having I still had the ability to type up a cool review (corny). Anyway, lots of us Hotliners including Leviathant, Meathead, Crimsonplague, WhiteChapelMolly, Mamoulian and I, along with Ca9, Abbey, Lasher, the guys from EvenDeeper.net, GaryTheRetard, Randy, Kim (the bassist from Zeromancer) and some other friends went to the Philadelphia show. With the Fragility Tour Journal being down, I typed up a small review of the show, and GaryTheRetard gave me the setlist.Leviathant is at the Pittsburgh show right now, so expect a review of both shows by him tomorrow sometime.

Nine Inch Nails on chartattack.com

In an overwhelmingly positive review of the show at the Maple Leaf Gardens, Eric Cardiff writes for chartattack.com:NIN may very well be the best rock band to appear in the last decade. NIN.(I think they liked the show)For the full review, follow this link, and for six nice photos of TR by Richard Beland, click here. Thanks to greg for sending in the link.

Tons more of the Incite interview on incite.com
