THE NIN HOTLINE

Just days before the anniversary of the release of Hesitation Marks, Nine Inch Nails wraps their US tour. If you still read this page, I don't need to tell you about the long-promised Tension DVD - in fact, my last update about it is still here on the front page. But minutes ago, a short video clip was posted to the Nine Inch Nails instagram account, along with this note: "We're hard at work on a video release that will encompass #NIN2013, #Tension2013, and #NIN2014. Stay tuned for details."

June sneaked past me this year, and I forgot to make a timely exasperated post about how weird it is that this site is now fifteen years old. It's older now that Nine Inch Nails was when I started the site. This train of thought manifested last night when I stayed up too late designing a crappy t-shirt again. This time around I tapped my Bleedthrough nostalgia.



Here's a shirt from an alternate timeline in which Nine Inch Nails released a sci-fi concept album in 2004 - if you were on nin.com back then, you might have an idea of what I'm talking about, and maybe even roll your eyes a little bit at the recursion that's implied there.

Available in men's & women's sizes, in multiple colors (including black-on-black) and even as a hoodie, there's no shortage of options to choose from this time around. The design (see below) is somewhat unconventional, but I feel that suits the nature of the admittedly obscure subject matter. If you like what you see, you've got a couple of weeks to throw a pre-order in the hat. If there are 30 pre-orders, the shirts get printed. If not, no worries. Maybe I'll try something more conventional next time! Mostly, it's that I already have so many NIN shirts with a NIN logo on the front. Have a great weekend!

In a previous decade, multitrack stems for "The Hand That Feeds" were released by Nine Inch Nails, so listeners could peel apart the layers, or have a go at remixing the song themselves. The Hotline pointed readers to Echoing the Sound and coordinated with other fans to facilitate a remix contest. Over five-hundred submissions later, a community arose, led by the team at ninremixes.com.

This site has undergone several iterations since then, and the latest is perhaps the most exciting. Not only is there a new layout, new ways to listen & download, but there's a new collaboration feature powered by Blend. As always, there are 5,000 free remixes available for download, direct downloads of multitracks for remixing, an upload area for remixes/unnofficial remixes/fan inspired songs/fan inspired poetry, and a new chat feature for discussing audio/daws/remixing. Absent from NINremixes this year though is former curator and active moderator Aaron House (Evil Ethics), who passed away earlier this year. I was sad to learn of his passing, but am glad to see that the site he dedicated so much time to is continuing onward.

Last night, 20th Century Fox released the latest trailer for Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher, with a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The film is released nationally in the US on October 3rd, and should a commercially available soundtrack come out, it's a fairly safe bet that we'll be seeing that in late November. In the meantime, here's a preview of things to come:
