Cash's Hurt Video Nominated for Several VMA's

As more and more praise comes towards Johnny Cash's carreer, he's being nominated for more and more awards. This time, the video for his cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt, has been nominated for a few MTV Video Music Awards.
Cash is nominated for Best Video, Best Male Video, Best Male Over The Age of Seventy Video, Best Art Direction in a Video, Best Editing in a Video, and Best Cinemetography in a Video. Word on the street has it that Cash will not be winning MTV's "Video of the Year" award because MTV is "full of it". That's just a rumour though.
The video is online at director Mark Romanek's webiste: markromanek.com

About NIN.com

The NIN Hotline cannot assist in matters dealing with NIN.com. All NIN.com related matters should be addressed to: webmaster@nin.com. In recent days we've received quite a bit of mail regarding problems with the official site. This is just to clarify that TNH is not officially part of Nine Inch Nails. We cannot help you register, forward website questions, or answer individual questions on Tapeworm/NIN projects. As soon as we get word on anything it will be posted. Thanks and keep visiting!
We will be posting a FAQ shortly to clear up any questions on submission guidlines.

Black and White

NIN.com has changed yet again. The quotes continue to lighten and page 6 is darker. Thanks to all who sent in to us.

Yes, you can!

As part of Nine Inch Nails' neverending quest to make us look like liars, nin.com's message boards are now once again accepting new members. So if you want to be a member, you can go do that now.
Edit: There seems to be a lot of people who are still having trouble registering. Perhaps it was only a temporary thing. If you are one of these people, please just be patient, as the boards will inevitably be reopened eventually. In the meantime, there is nothing that any of us the Hotline can do about it.

Yes, they are lighter. No, you can't join nin:access.

If you've noticed the messages on nin.com getting lighter (or darker, for the dark bits), you are not just going crazy from pressing that reload button -- they have changed in contrast several times over the past few days.
Meanwhile, with all the buzz being generated, it seems quite a few people have been curious about how to join the nin.com message board, access. You can't. It's broken, or maybe just full. You're not doing anything wrong, but unless you signed up at least a year ago, you won't be able to get the message board to email you with your login information. But don't fret! If anything interesting gets posted on nin.com, we'll repeat it here.

NIN.com page 6 - The Lathe of Heaven Ch. 7

On Echoing the Sound, amlah6 noted that the un-Googleable text found on 6th page of nin.com is actually an excerpt from the beginning of the seventh chapter of Lathe of Heaven, credited by LeGuin to Victor Hugo:
Daydream, which is to thought as the nebula is to the star, borders on sleep, and is concerned with it as its frontier. An atmosphere inhabited by living transparencies: there's a beginning of the unknown. But beyond it the Possible opens out, immense. Other beings, other facts, are there. No supernaturalism, on the occult continuation of infinite nature....Sleep is in contact with the Possible, which we also call the improbable. The world of the night is a world. Night, as night, is a universe....The dark things of the unknown world become neighbors of man, whether by true communication or by a visionary enlargement of the distances of the abyss...and the sleeper, not quite seeing, not quite unconscious, glimpses the strange animalities, weird vegetations, terrible or radiant pallors, ghosts, masks, figures, hydras, confusions, moonless moonlights obscure unmakings of miracle, growths and vanishings within a murky depth, shapes floating in shadow, the whole mystery which we call Dreaming, and which is nothing other than the approach of an invisible reality. The dream is the aquarium of Night.

Iha is in APC

According to aperfectcircle.org, James Iha is officially in APC. Thanks to Bradley for this note.

What a day for a daydream

Before we get four hundred emails about it, nin.com has updated again with a new image, and more deep thoughts. So far, the site has been updating in roughly three-day intervals. Will this pattern continue? Stay tuned for more on this, plus your weekend weather forecast, at 11.

Read the Hotline before you email the Hotline.

We're still getting emails asking us if we know that nin.com has updated, or sending us links to the text from which the updates have been sourced. Nearly five days after the fact. While it's cool that you're noticing, don't forget to check and see if we already noticed before sending us news that there's new stuff on nin.com.

Daniel Sideværn has been paying extra attention to nin.com lately, as he noticed that the background image on this page - when adjusted properly, reveals a whole lot of binary code. You can either try it yourself, or look at the copy he modified and saved here.
Going the extra mile, Daniel converted the whole string of ones and zeros to ASCII (using a tool like this) and here's what came out of it:
mesage start: i am on the other side. i dont now how to get bck. can you see this? can you help me? i am afraid. mssage end.
Try it yourself. You can find further discussion on the hidden message here.

APC Super Mega Update!!

Virgin Records has dropped a big load of A Perfect Circle news upon us. For those of you too lazy to click the link, I was nice enough to paste it here:
A PERFECT CIRCLE COMPLETES NEW ALBUM
Virgin recording group A Perfect Circle has concluded a half-year creative process of emotional soul-searching with the completion of their much-anticipated second album, THIRTEENTH STEP. The darkly textured collection of new songs will be unveiled during a two-week string of very exclusive club dates across the country beginning July 26th , it was announced today. The new album will arrive in stores on September 16th, the follow-up to the platinum Mer De Noms, APC's extraordinary Virgin Records debut of May 2000.
A dramatically powerful album that picks up sonically where Mer De Noms left off, THIRTEENTH STEP is a conceptual exploration of the darker side of the human psyche. The final sequence of songs includes: "The Package," "Weak and Powerless," "The Noose," "Blue," "Vanishing," "A Stranger," "The Outsider," "Crimes," "The Nurse Who Loved Me," "Pet," "Lullaby," and "Gravity."
On THIRTEENTH STEP, core members Maynard James Keenan (singer), Billy Howerdel (guitarist) and Josh Freese (drummer) are joined by former Marilyn Manson bassist Jeordie White (previously known as Twiggy Ramirez), who will be introduced to A Perfect Circle's legions of fans on the upcoming tour dates.
The dates are:

APC News

Is NIN's Danny Lohner no longer in A Perfect Circle? We're not sure, but a few readers sent in this news. Take it for what it's worth.
From Undercover:James Iha Joins A Perfect Circle
It appears the line-up for A Perfect Circle has changed once again. Former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha looks set to join the band. According to Undercover's secret agent Double Oh Behave in Los Angeles, Iha, who has remained relatively low-key since the breakup of Smashing Pumpkins became "suddenly available" just as A Perfect Circle were about to audition guitarists. Auditions that were to take place this week for APC have been cancelled. Smashing Pumkins broke up in December 2000 and frontman Billy Corgan went on to form Zwan. For Zwan he pouched APC's bass player Paz Lechantin. A Perfect Circle were formed by Billy Howerdal, the former guitar tech for Smashing Pumpkins. A Perfect Circle have already finished their second album. 'The Outsider', the first single from the album will be released in August.
As indicated earlier in this post... nothing is concrete. There is also conflicting news concerning the first single at APC.org. Stay tuned and we will keep posting whatever links are sent our way. Thanks to KainZilla.
