Trent's Dirty Little Secret

In the last edition of the Meathead Perspective, in which I blatantly insulted 50 percent of my readers, I mentioned that there wasn't much Nine Inch Nails-related news available at the moment to be made fun of. However, it has been brought to my attention that there is, in fact, something that I have been overlooking which desperately needs mentioning. The following is a quote from the January 2002 issue of Alternative Press magazine:

AP: You don't seem like the kind of person who would be at an arena concert unless you were the attraction.
Trent: Incorrect! Why, not long ago, you could have seen me enjoying the sights and sounds of 'N Sync at the Superdome in New Orleans.
AP: Why? You got a hummer from Britney Spears while her boyfriend was onstage?
Trent: Everybody was going on about the production. I thought okay, in a world where money is no object, what could they do with limitless production? Because I do the set design for NIN, I was intrigued about the possibilities. And [their show] was boring. There was a lot of shit there, but it was very Rob Zombie-style. "You know what? I'll bring it all! Fire, dragons, robots!"

I can't make this stuff up, folks.

Of course, Trent wouldn't attend an N'Sync concert without some excuse prepared well in advance. "I was intrigued about the possibilities" blah blah blah. Yeah, right. That ranks right up there with "I just read Hustler for the articles" and "I only shop at K-mart because it's closer than Old Navy." No, let's be realistic. The only reason Trent even saw fit to mention his 'N Sync experience to Alternative Press is that he wanted me to write a new Meathead Perspective.

Back in tha day, when Trent was doing things like "releasing albums" and "touring", it was easy for me to find things to write about. I didn't even have to try, really. But nowadays, it's been a little more difficult. Naturally, Trent absolutely loves reading the Meathead Perspective, and becomes overwhelmed with giddiness whenever a new one goes online. Everybody knows that, and I don't think I'm out of line in stating this obvious fact. So therefore I can't really fault him for going out of his way to provide material for me to use to craft yet another breathtaking chapter of the Perspective.

But unfortunately, this wasn't the only reason Trent attended said 'N Sync performance at said Superdome. He says [their show] was boring, but the picture shown here on the left, which was taken by my assistants whom I pay to follow Trent around and take incriminating photographs of him, clearly shows Trent and his friends thoroughly enjoying themselves at the "boring" 'N Sync show. According to eyewitnesses, Trent was seen singing along enthusiastically with such hits as "Bye Bye Bye", "Tearin' Up My Heart", and "(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You".

"Yeah, it was weird," commented one concert-goer after the show, "seeing that Nine Inch Nails guy standing next to me, shouting out 'I love you Lance!' and waving his arms all around. He knew the words even better than I do."

"I think I actually saw him crying during the encore," added another fan.

Yes, it is quite obvious that Trent Reznor does in fact enjoy the sights and sounds of 'N Sync after all. But to be honest, I'm a little surprised that this subject didn't come up sooner. Anyone who attended the Fragility v2.0 tour last year should have noticed some similarities between Nine Inch Nails' stage performance and that of 'N Sync. Take a close look at the nin.com photo below for an example.

Honestly, this shouldn't really come as a huge surprise to Nine Inch Nails fans. But I hope we all can learn to look past Trent's love of boy bands, and still respect him as a talented artist. I'm sure we all have our own little guilty pleasures, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. It's a good thing he didn't go see the Backstreet Boys though, because those guys really suck.
