NINE INCH NAILS AND "THE FRAGILE" TOP 1999 CRITICS "BEST OF" LISTS AND NATIONAL READERS POLLS

January 4, 2000 � New York � Grammy award-winning nine inch nails has received nominations in two categories for the 42nd annual Grammy Awards. The track "Starf***ers, Inc." is nominated for "Best Metal Performance" and the CD "The Fragile" is nominated for "Best Alternative Music Performance."

nine inch nails� CD "The Fragile" was released on September 21, 1999 and has been certified platinum by the R.I.A.A. Produced by nine inch nails� Trent Reznor and engineer/mixer Alan Moulder, "The Fragile" is nine inch nails� first studio album in five years. "Into the Void," the second single, is currently a top fifteen track at Modern Rock radio and the companion video is forthcoming.

Prior to today�s nominations, nine inch nails have won two Grammy Awards � the 1995 Best Metal Performance for "Happiness In Slavery" and the 1992 Best Metal Performance for "Wish".

Throughout 1999 nine inch nails and "The Fragile" received widespread critical acclaim, topping many year-end critics lists and readers polls.. USA TODAY named the CD "The Best" of the year and SPIN magazine named "The Fragile" "The Album Of The Year." TIME, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, THE NEW YORK TIMES, and THE NEW YORK POST among others have named "The Fragile" one of the top ten albums of the year.
