Court Case Dismissed

Originally published in K-ROCK on December 1, 1998

A lawsuit claiming Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor stole songs that appeared on his 1994 album The Downward Spiral was dismissed by a federal judge on Tuesday. Los Angeles songwriter Mark Onofrio claimed Reznor stole three songs that he sent to the singer's home after meeting in an online chat room. Onofrio says that the songs later turned up on The Downward Spiral. The trial, originally scheduled for February, was delayed by U.S. District Judge William Rea in hopes that a settlement would be reached. When the case came back up for trial on Tuesday, it was formally dismissed. Onofrio is likely to appeal.
