Nine Inch Nails So Much More Than Music

By Staff for The Post Chronicle on April 19, 2007

"Year Zero," the new album by Nine Inch Nails, reached stores this week but fans have played the U.S. group's alternate-reality game for months.

The alternative-industrial rock band's leader, Trent Reznor, and his minions have been scattering clues in a variety of formats and venues for the science fiction game that has the United Sates facing a bleak outlook following nuclear war and other catastrophic events in the year 2022, USA Today reported Thursday.

So far, fans have found pieces of the puzzle on T-shirts, phone recordings and USB files left in concert hall bathrooms. They've also mined morsels in Morse code, spectrographic analysis and a number of Web sites, the newspaper said.

The concept album-game by the band from Cleveland is expected to go on for another 18 months. (c)
