'Hand' on the run

By Fred Bronson for Chart Beat Bonus on April 1, 2005

The first Nine Inch Nails song to chart in almost six years is the Hot Shot Debut on Billboard's Hot 100. "The Hand That Feeds" (Nothing/Interscope) bows at No. 31, the second highest debut of 2005 after the No. 22 opening of the multi-artist charity single, "Across the Universe."

"The Hand That Feeds" is also the second highest debut when it comes to Nine Inch Nails' chart career. The record was set by "The Day the World Went Away" in August 1999. By debuting and peaking at No. 17, "World" became the highest-charting Nine Inch Nails single of all time. "Hand" is second, and the only other track of five chart entries to appear in the top 40 portion of the list.
