Katrina Aftermath: Trent Reznor, Juvenile, Better Than Ezra

Originally published in Spin.com on September 8, 2005

New Orleans has a storied musical tradition, so it's no wonder musicians were among those who lost homes and are missing loved ones in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Rapper Juvenile, whose family home on Lake Pontchartrain was completely destroyed, has been urging his fans to donate to the Red Cross and will perform in the BET Relief Telethon, reports MTV.com. Louisiana native Master P is also getting involved in charity work. He formed an organization called Team Rescue to get supplies to those still stranded in New Orleans.

The hip hop community isn't the only one hard hit by Katrina: Band members of Better Than Ezra (from New Orleans) and 3 Doors Down (from Biloxi, Mississippi) have lost homes and many possessions in the flooding. Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor, who called New Orleans home for four years and maintained a recording studio in the Mardi Gras city, was also devastated by the events. According to the Nine Inch Nails website, Reznor wrote, "I'm truly at a loss for words right now. To see a place you love and have spent a good portion of your life in destroyed...is overwhelming."

As SPIN.com reported earlier, this Saturday, Sept. 10, MTV, VH1, and CMT will simultaneously air hurricane relief specials from 8 P.M. to 11 P.M. EST. Reznor and 3 Doors Down will participate, along with bands like Dashboard Confessional, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Audioslave, and Green Day.
